DVD Shrink
DVDShrink is software to backup DVD discs. You can use this software in conjunction with DVD burning software of your choice, to make a backup copy of any DVD video disc. DVDShrink will also burn your backup DVD, if you have installed the latest version of Nero. If you already possess alternative burning software and prefer to stick with it, then you can still use DVD Shrink. The output from DVDShrink can be saved as files on your hard drive, which you can then burn with software of your choice. Why Use DVDShrink? Most DVDs are designed to prevent you from making copies. The first preventative measure is encryption. Commercial DVD titles are often encrypted, which prevents you from either copying them to your hard drive, or if you manage to do so, being able to play the resulting files. DVDShrink overcomes this problem with built-in decryption algorithms. The next problem is not so easy. Most DVD video titles are simply too large to fit, without modification, onto a single recordable DVD-R disk. DVDShrink overcomes this problem by compressing or "shrinking" the data from your original DVD. DVDShrink also allows you to re-author your DVD. You can make your own compilation from one or more source DVDs, or select only the parts of a DVD which you intend to view, thus preserving more space on your backup for the highest quality viewing. Tera Term
Tera Term is an open source, free, software implemented, terminal emulator application. It can emulate different types of computer terminals, from DEC VT100 to DEC VT382, and it supports telnet, SSH 1 & 2 and serial port connections. It also has a built-in macro scripting language and some other useful plugins. Key features include: Automatically creates logs with unique log names. Supports SSH, standard telnet and serial ports. Supports dec/digital/vt terminal standards. Tera Term is a useful application, which allows the connection to any remote Telnet or SSH hosts. It sports a clean and crisp layout that is easy to work with. The application does not take a long time to wrap your head around and is also very light on system resources. So, if you need a free terminal emulator, which is easy to master and supports remote Telnet or SSH host connections then Tera Term is a good choice.
TreeSize
TreeSize Free is a useful app that makes managing your disk space easy, by providing accurate views of how much space any given group of files is taking up on your computer. You can start TreeSize Free from the context menu of a folder or drive. It shows you the size of this folder, including its subfolders. If you need to see more info regarding any subfolders, you can expand folders and can see the size of every subfolder. Key Features Include: Locate disk space issues. HandBrake is not limited to DVDs, it will now accept practically any type of video as a source. Its latest version was launched in late 2018 and comes with a wealth of updates and fixed issues. CrystalDiskInfo
CrystalDiskInfo is a utility tool that can tell you about the hardware performance of your hard disk, including how likely it is to stop operating in the near future. The app gives you a complete readout of all your computer's SMART information, as well as a current temperature and health status. The interface can be easily navigated by anyone with an OK understanding of hard drives and the Windows OS. From the dashboard you can quickly see a long list of up-to-date system data. CrystalDiskInfo doesn’t have a lot of options here, or settings or deep drill down menus for that matter. It does, however, give you a clear and straightforward interface that shows all of the data it can retrieve* from each drive on your system. CrystalDiskInfo can be configured to send you Alerts in the event that there is an issue with one of the drives being monitored. These alerts can be audible or via email, and you can also configure the frequency of application refresh data. Overall, CrystalDiskInfo is a good, free tool if you have a reasonable level of computer knowledge and want to be kept informed about your system. It is lightweight, and uses hardly any system resources at all. The interface is crisp and clutter free, but the downside is, there is no Help feature with the app, and it does’t provide an explanation for any of the data that is displayed. If you are a novice user, it may be a good idea to try another app. *Various drives implement S.M.A.R.T. in different ways and not every drive tracks or reports every possible value.
GParted
GNOME Partition Editor (Gparted) is used for creating, reorganizing, and deleting disk partitions. It uses libparted from the parted project to detect and manipulate partition tables. There are optional file system tools that permit managing file systems which are not included in libparted. Key features include: Create partition tables (e.g., MSDOS, GPT). Create, delete, copy, resize, move, check, set new UUID, or label partitions. Manipulate btrfs, ext2/3/4, f2fs, FAT16/32, hfs/hfs+, linux-swap, lvm2 pv, nilfs2, NTFS, reiserfs/4, ufs, and xfs file systems. Enable and disable partition flags (e.g., boot, hidden). Align partitions to mebibyte (MiB) or cylinder boundaries. Attempt data rescue from lost partitions. Supports hardware RAID, motherboard BIOS RAID, Linux software RAID. Supports all sector sizes (e.g., 512, 1024, 2048, 4096 byte sectors). GParted can be used on x86 and x86-64 based computers running Windows, Mac OS X or Linux, by booting from media containing GParted Live. GParted is a great piece of software that everyone should have stashed away, just in case they have any issues with their hard disk. It is really functional, has lots of nifty tools and has good hardware support. Above all, and I cannot emphasize this enough, it is very easy to use!
TeraCopy
TeraCopy is a compact program designed to copy and move files at the maximum possible speed, providing the user a lot of features: Copy files faster. TeraCopy uses dynamically adjusted buffers to reduce seek times. Asynchronous copy speeds up file transfer between two physical hard drives. Pause and resume file transfers. Pause copy process at any time to free up system resources and continue with a single click. Error recovery. In case of copy error, TeraCopy will try several times and in the worse case just skips the file, not terminating the entire transfer. Interactive file list. TeraCopy shows failed file transfers and lets you fix the problem and recopy only problem files. Shell integration. TeraCopy can completely replace Explorer copy and move functions, allowing you work with files as usual. Full Unicode support.
