TreeSize
TreeSize Free is a useful app that makes managing your disk space easy, by providing accurate views of how much space any given group of files is taking up on your computer. You can start TreeSize Free from the context menu of a folder or drive. It shows you the size of this folder, including its subfolders. If you need to see more info regarding any subfolders, you can expand folders and can see the size of every subfolder. Key Features Include: Locate disk space issues. Monitor free space on mobile devices. Detailed overview. TreeSize Free is pretty versatile as it is able to scan hard drives and mobile devices via MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) and WebDAV. It is also able to scan network shares and cloud drives. As TreeSize Free uses the MTF (Master File Table) for local NTFS drives, it guarantees ultra-fast, secure scans. You can easily navigate folders and their sizes by key, color coded visualisation bars. The interface is clean and fresh showing you a stack of data including NTFS compression rates. The column view offers detailed information about files and folders including size, occupied disk space, number of files, last access, and owner. Overall, this handy little utility occupies minimal disk space, uses a small amount of system resources and has an intuitive interface on standard and touch enabled devices.
GoodSync for Windows
GoodSync for Windows is an easy, secure, and reliable way to automatically synchronize and back up your photos, MP3s, and important files. Backing-up and/or synchronizing your critical documents is an easy affair, with tasks that can be scheduled using a variety of Google Drive, Amazon S3, and SkyDrive supportautomatic options. GoodSync for Windows offers true bi-directional file synchronization that prevents any data loss. The app can be used to synchronize data between your desktop PC and laptop, home and office computers, computer and removable devices (USB Key, Flash Drive, CDRW disc). This can be done over a local network or via the Internet. Key Features include: Powerful syncing capabilities. Compare and analyze changes to files. Can backup multiple versions of files. Overall, GoodSync for Windows is a powerful file synchronization app. It offers cross platform availability and currently available for Windows, Mac, and Linux. The app lets you backup and sync files to any number of locations, including online storage, other computers, and even mobile devices. The only downside we can see, is that it has no compression or encryption options.
VeraCrypt
VeraCrypt is a great application to establish and maintain an on-the-fly-encrypted volume. On-the-fly encryption means that data is automatically encrypted right before it is saved and decrypted right after it is loaded, without any user intervention. This is a very secure method of data encryption as any data that is stored on an encrypted volume cannot be read (decrypted) without using the correct password/keyfile(s) or correct encryption keys. The entire file system is encrypted (e.g. file names, folder names, contents of every file, free space, meta data, etc) to give you as much security as possible. Key features include: Easy to use interface. Lightweight. Enhanced security. VeraCrypt is a free disk encryption software based on TrueCrypt 7.1a. It adds enhanced security to the algorithms used for system and partitions encryption making it immune to new developments in brute-force attacks. VeraCrypt has been specifically designed to give you better security with the data you want to encrypt. It is relatively lightweight, and has an easy to use interface.
Boxcryptor
Cloud storage is all the rage these days. From Box to Yandex and everything in between, it seems as though everyone has jumped on board with storing their data in a cloud environment. Everyone except the ultra security conscious, that is. If you categorize yourself in that bracket, then you should definitely check out Boxcryptor. More and more people are getting to grips with extra levels of security in ‘secure’ applications and services. Boxcryptor is a next-gen 'on disk' encryption tool that aims to do just that. The service works by taking files that are stored in cloud locations and it encrypts them using AES-256 and RSA encryption algorithms to secure the data. To set up Boxcryptor, simply install the app, choose which cloud platforms to encrypt and select filename encryption (not available in the free version). As soon as any new files are stored on the Boxcryptor drive, they are automatically encrypted. To encrypt any existing files, just right click on the files in Explorer or Finder and enable encryption. To unlock the Boxcryptor folder and view your files, all you have to do is simply run the BoxCryptor app, navigate to the encrypted folder and enter your password. Boxcryptor supports almost all cloud storage providers: Google Drive, One Drive, One Drive Business, Dropbox, Box, Amazon S3, CloudMe, iCloud, SugarSync, and Yandex to name a few.
